Many wards are using charms to reward the children for learning the Articles of Faith by giving them a number charm for each memorized Article of Faith. The key rings are fun to hang from scripture cases and work well for boys and girls. The charms are not an official part of the Faith in God program. 10 MINUTES: Each Activity Day we take 10 minutes to discuss one of the Thirteen Articles of Faith and how they have meaning in our lives as young sisters in our homes or at school or in any setting. This gives us a chance to talk about what is on their minds and to teach the gospel.
ICE CREAM CHART: The following links are cute ways to encourage the kids to learn the Articles of Faith. Print the poster of an ice cream cone and print the page of scoops of ice cream. For each Article of Faith learned, put a scoop of ice cream on the cone poster. When all are of the Article of Faith have been memorized, have an ice cream party: Poster link http://lds.about.com/library/bl/primary/aoficecreamchart.htm ice cram link http://lds.about.com/library/bl/primary/nicecream.htm
PUNCH CHART: The following links are for cute punch cards to help encourage the kids to learn the Articles of Faith. Print out a card for each child and punch out the appropriate number when they pass off one of the Articles of Faith: http://lds.about.com/library/bl/primary/aofpunchcard.doc ice ice cream http://lds.about.com/library/bl/primary/naofpunchcard3.htm
ARTICLES OF FAITH CARNIVAL: We are planning our annual Articles of Faith Convention but because it's the 125th anniversary of Primary we wanted to do something a little different and we came up with the carnival idea. The children will participate in the convention part as usual which consists of rotating from station to station reciting the articles of faith. At each station they will have their card punched if they say the article, if they can't successfully do it the number will just get crossed out signifying that they attempted it. When they've said or attempted all 13 they will turn their card in to a member of the Stake Primary Presidency and they will receive a golden ticket into the carnival. The carnival will include games that re-inforce the articles of faith. For instance we have Plinko - a sheet of plywood with nails hammered into so that a disc or ball will trip through to the bottom - the bottom will have spaces and in each space there will be a keyword for an article of faith - if the child can tell which number or recite the complete article of faith he will get a prize. Other games we are planning include a bowling game, a fishing game, a throw a ball into a dish game inside the dish there will be a keyword and the kids can do what they did before. We will also have a concentration game that reveals a puzzle that will be an article of faith - the matching part will be picture of the prophets or other pictures from the GAK. We will have birthday cake. The fishing booth prize will be a piece of netting filled with goldfish crackers. I will have to report after the activity to fill in the holes. We hope it will be fun.
GIANT TICKTACKTOE: This is a fun way to review the Articles of Faith
1. Using tape or rope, mark off giant ticktacktoe squares on the floor.
2. Draw a large X or O on each piece of cardboard (five of each letter). These are the team cards.
3. Divide the players into two teams. One team will use X’s; the other, O’s.
4. You will ask them to recite an Article of Faith.
Rules: The first player to raise his hand and quote the Article of Faith correctly takes a team card and stands in whatever ticktacktoe square he wishes. The opposing team gets the first opportunity to try the next Article of Faith. If any player answers a question incorrectly, the other team has a chance to give the correct answer. If neither team answers correctly after two tries apiece, you give the answer and asks a new question. Each time a player answers a question correctly, he takes a team card and stands on the unoccupied square of his choice. If there are not enough players, a team card is placed in the chosen square.
You could use this same game and ask any types of questions that you want. It is a fun way to review anything.
ARTICLE OF FAITH RECOGNITION: For recognition for
learning the Articles of Faith we are combining the "Mixed Menu" idea with an Ice Cream Social. When each girl can recite an article of faith to their leader they earn a scoop of ice cream for their chart. (You could also use the punch cards), Each scoop of ice cream will coincide with a particular Article of Faith and also represent a menu item for the recognition night. For example, if a girl learns the third Article of Faith she may earn a spoon, if she learns the ninth she may earn hot fudge topping, the fifth may link to nuts, etc... The trick is the girls do not know which Article of Faith matches with which menu item therefore they are encouraged to learn them all so they will have a "full" menu to choose from. Just as when they learn to live the gospel and endure to the end they will have a "full" menu in the kingdom of God. ~Nikki Ritter Surprise, AZ
ARTICLES OF FAITH GAMES: 1. Type the article of faith you are working on. Print it in a large font and glue each word to a square of construction paper. (For younger children or new learners, use phrases instead of individual words.) Each piece should be the same size and color. These pieces will be used in each game. Have one set for each person, but mix them together. Play this like Go Fish. Each child starts with seven cards. In turn, the children ask for a word they need to complete their Article of Faith. If the person they ask doesn’t have the word, he says “Go fish,” and the child draws from the pile. At the beginning, give the children a copy of the completed article, but later, expect them to do it from memory.
2. Using the same word squares made above, attach each square to a paperclip attached to a string and hang from ceiling or some other surface. Children may claim a word throughout the class when you feel they’ve earned one, or when they answer a question correctly. Use whatever method you like to get the words to the children. Use these to play the Silent Game. Class members sit in a circle with their words in front of them. No one is allowed to speak except for the leader. Whoever has the first word places it on the floor. Each person must pay attention to know when he needs to put down a word. If words are repeated, the first person to put it down gets to do so.
3. Each child takes turns choosing the next phrase or word. The other children pat their knees softly if the answer if correct, and pat their heads if the answer is wrong. No one speaks.
4. Hide the cut-out words around a room and let children search for them. As they find them, they lay them out on a table in order. The class works together to create the Article of Faith.
5. If you have active children, tape the words to a board or set them on a table. Have children run across the room, grab a word and run back to place it on the surface where you are creating the Article of Faith. If the person does not choose the correct word, he hands it to the next person in line, who runs it back to the other side of the room before gathering his own word. This may be best saved for a day when you are meeting during the week.
We looked up the words in the 13th Article of Faith such as benevolent, virtuous, etc. that the girls didn't know, talked about how to do good to someone at school, to your mom, to your neighbor, etc. We talked about enduring well. Then we recited the 13th Article of Faith using the erase a phrase and recite, erase a phrase and recite... Then we made a list of activities that were of good report. (This helped the younger girls memorize the article of faith and the 11 yr old girls completed their requirement.) I explained that I brought dog poop brownies for refreshments. The brownies were good except for a small part. The girls caught on that some movies and music have just a small part of something bad in them and it should make you want to stay away from them. We ended the activity with a word search and giving them a Mormon ad postcard that had a roach in an ice cream sundae. It reads, "It's great except for...except for the bad parts. What kinds of movies and music are you feeding your mind?"
ARTICLE OF FAITH FRAME: I asked the girls what their favorite Article of Faith and favorite color was. I then typed up their A of F and printed it on their favorite color of paper. I bought cheap 5 X 7 frames and tissue paper. I had them use the tissue paper to decorate a background for their A of F. Then they glued the A of F onto the background. They all turned out totally different. Now they can display their favorite A of F in their rooms. You could also do this with their favorite scripture.
ARTICLES OF FAITH: This is a great way for girls to learn their Articels of Faith.Have them practice their articels of faith. The next time we meet have them recite the ones they practiced.Set a date to have a party.Give them something for each article.(if you have an ice cream party give a spoon,a bowl,1 scoop of icecream, nuts, choc.syrup, whip cream, cherry etc.)
